What is BTSA?

The BTSA Grant Program was created in 1993 by the California State Legislature in recognition of the fact that new teachers need support and reflective assessment to help them develop the skills critical to teaching success. BTSA is designed to assist beginning teachers as they transition from teacher preparation into the complex responsibilities of teaching. Beginning teachers grow in their professional practice by using a consultative, reflective, formative assessment process.

BTSA is based on the California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTP)

  • Engaging and Supporting All Students
  • Creating and Maintaining Effective Environments for Student Learning
  • Understanding and Organizing Subject Matter for Student Learning
  • Planning Instruction and Designing Learning Experiences for All Students
  • Assessing Student Learning
  • Developing as a Professional Educator
